SUMMARY:Tireside Chat - Wood You Believe It?
DESCRIPTION:Savoy Automobile Museum is presenting a woodie-themed exhibition\, WOOD You Believe It?!\, from March 31 – August 2\, 2026. \nIt’s been decades since U.S. automakers sold real wood-bodied cars\, but their fascination lingers like a fond childhood memory. Bobbing in a sea of lozenge-shaped\, single-hued\, boring contemporary metal cars\, a gleaming Ford woodie wagon\, a massive Chrysler Town & Country convertible\, or an elegant Packard Station Sedan remains a splendid anachronism\, a beautifully finished piece of fine furniture on wheels. Russet mahogany panels\, honey-toned\, birds-eye maple body framing\, intricate finger joints\, piano-hinged doors\, slatted wood headliners under burnished\, tightly-tacked boot topping…everywhere you look on a woodie\, there’s much to admire. \nWe’re not talking about fakey-do DI-NOC\, simulated wood-paneled 1970s-era Ford Country Squires and steel-bodied Buick Roadmasters. Real woodies are scarce because even when they were brand new\, they demanded the careful attention you’d lavish on a classic wooden boat. A three-season vehicle\, typically the province of the very wealthy\, woodies hauled weekenders to the Hamptons and along Philadelphia’s Main Line. North of Boston\, in posh “summer cottage” enclaves like Beverly Farms\, they were called ‘beach wagons.’ \nUsually\, the most expensive model in an automaker’s lineup\, woodies served as class-crashing Country Club carry-alls. Seeking a visual dazzler on wheels\, Hollywood headliners like Clark Gable\, Bette Davis\, Milton Berle\, Bob Hope\, and lesser luminaries like Hopalong Cassidy\, Walter Pidgeon\, and Gene Autry all owned woodies. \nAnd a generation of primo California surfers snapped up used woodies in their last stages of roadability. \nWant to learn more? \nJoin us for the next Tireside Chat on April 25 at 7:00 pm at Savoy Automobile Museum. Star of “Chasing Cassic Cars” Wayne Carini\, will talk with Ken Gross about the fascinating world of woodies — both have owned numerous examples\, and when they finish talking about these charming cars\, you’ll want one too! \nTickets\n\nMembers – $15\nGeneral public – $30\nPurchase tickets here.

SUMMARY:Tireside Chat - Chrysler Letter Cars
DESCRIPTION:Savoy Automobile Museum is presenting a Chrysler Letter Cars themed exhibition from May 5 – August 30\, 2026. \nChrysler Corporation stunned the high-performance auto world in 1955 with the introduction of the Chrysler C-300\, a sleek\, race-bred coupe for the road. No one offered anything like it. \nThe C-300 was Chrysler’s answer to the Chevrolet Corvette and the Ford Thunderbird. But it was bigger and much more powerful. A simple and elegant two-door coupe\, with clean\, crisp\, “Forward Look” styling by Virgil Exner and his talented team\, the C-300 packed a hefty\, 300-bhp FirePower Hemi V-8\, with solid lifters and a racing cam\, under its smooth hood. \nTwin Imperial grilles and checkered flag theme badges ensured passersby knew this car was something special. Wire wheels were optional. Speed was standard. \nAnd the “C” stood for cool! \nNot surprisingly\, the 300 was an out-of-the-box hit\, and Chrysler followed it up with an exciting series of what became known as “Letter Cars\,” from 1955-to-1965. \nThe first C-300\, soon just called the Chrysler 300\, anticipated the thrilling Muscle Car movement\, with its GTOs\, 409s and 442s\, in the early 1960s. \nOn NASCAR tracks\, a well-tuned 300 could top 128-mph\, and on the street\, they were unbeatable. You could say that the Chrysler 300 inspired the winged Plymouth Road Runner\, Superbird\, and the Dodge Charger Daytona — and you’d be right. \nWant to know more? \nJoin us for a Tireside Chat on Friday\, May 8 at 7:00 pm with Muscle Car Curator Charlie Vrana and award-winning author and museum consultant\, Ken Gross\, as they talk about the Chrysler 300\, the fabulous Muscle Car era\, and the great personalities and cars that made automotive history!\n\nTickets\nMembers – Complimentary\nGeneral Public – Included with museum admission
