General Motors Chairman Alfred P. Sloan, Jr., created the annual program of the Chevrolet brand’s updates. Under the watchful eye of Styling Head Harley Earl, Chevrolets resembled the higher-priced Buicks and Cadillacs. In 1940, Chevrolet introduced the Special Deluxe as its top-of-the-line model. The origin of its nickname “Royal Clipper” is unknown, but the car’s flowing lines and rounded body evoked memories of fast-moving ocean vehicles called clippers. Interior and exterior upgrades raised the Special Deluxe to near-Buick status.
This 1940 Chevrolet Special Deluxe beautifully blends past design excellence with modern technology. Upgrades include a second-generation General Motors LT1 350 engine and an automatic transmission. Coil-over front shocks, improved steering and braking systems enhance daily driving. Well-preserved, period-correct exterior features, coupled with a beautifully appointed interior and upgraded air-conditioning, make this 1940 Chevrolet Special Deluxe restomod a classic car lover’s dream come true.
