In 1956, the two-year-old Studebaker-Packard Corp. gave its lineup a major facelift. Raymond Loewy was approaching the end of his contract, and his designs now seemed “too European.” The company brought in Vince Gardner, who created a more “American” look that boldly stated, “I am a Studebaker!” Although the car’s center section remained the same, the front and rear ends were reshaped. The new fenders, hood, and deck lid gave the vehicles a larger, more mainstream profile.

New for 1956 was the 289 cubic-inch engine. However, not new for that year was a four-door station wagon. Despite sales demonstrating strong customer desire for this body style, Studebaker stuck with its two-door design. Not only was the President Pinehurst wagon’s production run limited, but it was also a one-year-only model. Studebaker aficionados find the President Pinehurst wagon very desirable. This vehicle has been beautifully restored to its original condition.
