For 1957, the Chevrolet Bel Air received a new wide-chromed grille, hood rocket ornaments, front bumper bullets, tailfins, and a new dashboard. It also featured optional fuel injection. The fuel door is hidden in the left rear fin to maintain its sleek style. On the grille, a new gold trim covered the front, the fender chevrons at the hood, and the trunk script. To accentuate the tailfins, a ribbed aluminum insert heightens the exclusivity of this vehicle.
Unlike the Bel Air models from 1955 and 1956, the 1957 Bel Airs featured factory-installed fuel injection, allowing them to compete with the supercharged F-code Fords and Studebaker Golden Hawks. By this time, the Chevrolet Fisher Body had proven better quality, appealing to young consumers searching for an affordable luxury vehicle. The 1957 Chevrolet was completely restyled compared to earlier models, incorporating many design cues from Cadillac. It was a highly successful new model, and its enduring appeal means that many examples still exist today.
