The first generation of the Austin-Healey 3000, also known as the Mark I, debuted in 1959, featuring a more refined appearance. It was offered in two models: an open two-seater, the Mark I BN7, and a 2+2, the Mark I BT7. The Mark I was powered by a 3-liter BMC C-Series 6-cylinder engine. In 1962, the improved and slightly restyled Mark II BJ7 sports convertible, now with wind-up windows, replaced the Mark I.
After 1964, the Mark III BJ8 sports convertible was introduced. After 1,390 units were produced, some chassis modifications were made, and it became known as Phase II. Following this, 16,322 additional units were built. Engine output for the Mark III rose from 130 BHP to 150 BHP. Power-assisted brakes were now standard. Austin-Healey won several Alpine Rallies in 1961-1962 and finished first in the Liege-Rome-Liege Rally in 1960 and 1964.
