The Ramblin’ Wreck has led the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets into Bobby Dodd Stadium since 1961. As the official mascot of the university, the Wreck is mechanically and financially maintained by the Ramblin’ Reck Club. The official Ramblin’ Wreck is considered the only actual Wreck, with no backups or replacements existing.
The expression “Rambling Wrecks from Georgia Tech” dates back to the late 19th century and was used originally to refer to the makeshift motorized vehicles constructed by Georgia Tech engineers employed in projects in the jungles of South America. Other workers in the area began to refer to these vehicles and the men who drove them as “Rambling Wrecks from Georgia Tech.”
