In 1939, Joseph W. Frazer, formerly of Chrysler, became President and GM of Willys-Overland, and helped introduce the 1940 Willys models. The difference between the 1939 and 1940 Willys models was minimal. The new look, called “Slip-Stream” included twin “kidney” grilles, a higher prow, and headlights set into “teardrop” buckets. Willys cars were one of the least expensive models in that market. New models included 4 passenger cars, a pickup truck, and a panel van.

The 1940 models featured great-looking interiors. Drivers found controls readily available; the starter and choke could be operated single-handedly. Driver fatigue was reduced with the correct positioning of the seats. In addition, the design offered extra head and leg room. 1940s-era Willys cars and trucks became favorites with drag racers and hotrodders. This coupe has been restored to original condition, including the engine bay, which is equipped to match its original factory appearance.
