The 1960 Ford F-100’s design reflects a drastic departure. Light-duty trucks lost their rounded cabs, bulging fenders, and running boards. This new transformation brought sharply defined edges, flat sides, and aggressively styled front ends. The clamshell hood encapsulated the whole front end rather than being confined between the fenders. Running boards disappeared, now mounted inside the cab. Also available as an option was the new high-capacity Styleside bed with a steel floor and smooth sides.

Interior improvements included weather stripping that reduced wind and road noise. Additionally, drivers were treated to more comfortable seating as Ford switched to thick foam padding. Vinyl-ribbed bolsters, two-toned instruments, and door panels, along with a patterned headliner, gave the Custom Cab a more car-like feel. All these changes helped to back Ford’s claim that these were the “strongest, sturdiest Light Duty Cab ever to wear Ford badges.”
