Launched in 1993, the Lincoln Mark VIII was the updated replacement for the Mark VII. However, it was not until mid-year that the LSC (Luxury Sport Coupe) was released. In celebration of their 75th Anniversary, Lincoln released Diamond Anniversary Editions of their Town Car with a power moonroof, in-car cellular phone and chrome wheels. In addition, this car also has the Touring Package with electronic traction assist, trunk mounted CD changer and electrochromic mirrors.
The Lincoln Mark VIII was almost a NASCAR contender. The successful Thunderbird would be discontinued at the end of 1996 and a replacement was needed. A Mark VIII was wind tunnel tested at the Lockheed facility in Marietta, GA. At the Charlotte Motor Speedway, John Andretti test drove the car, recording one of the highest speeds in those test sessions. Ford, however, did not want the Mark VIII to have a race car image so the car’s racing career was sidelined permanently.
