Warren Lee English, Sr. was born in Albany, GA, in 1938, and went by the name Lee. At fifteen, while working a paper route, he saw this 1932 DeSoto for sale for $150 and fell in love with it. Not old enough to purchase it, Lee persuaded his father to buy his dream car, promising to pay him back. Lee took Margaret on their first date in this car and later to their high school proms. Lee and Margaret were married in 1957, the same year he joined the Army and left for overseas. Following World War II and the start of their family, Lee sold the DeSoto. Twenty-five years later, Lee was reunited with his 1932 DeSoto after Margaret purchased the vehicle as an anniversary gift.
Completely new for 1932, DeSoto introduced the “Floating Power” mounted-engine design, which helped the DeSoto Six run as smoothly as an eight. However, the downside to having the engine suspended is the structural crossmember, which requires engineers to create a new frame. As a result, the X-frame design proved very rigid and only served to bolster the SC’s well-engineered reputation.
