Conservative by nature, Packard did not enter the station wagon market until 1937. These vehicles were utilitarian; however, the wood-trimmed models alluded to a home or estate in the country, complete with a roaring fire in the fireplace. Packard literature recommended that the interior wood finishes should be freshly sanded and varnished annually.
Packard’s styling philosophy was simple, change as little as possible. Now, for the first time, Packard’s headlights blended into the front fenders. The rest of the industry had been doing this for years. The front end sported a tall central grille with matching side grills. This fresh face announced, “I’m a Packard despite my new look!” However, this can be considered a passing fancy. Breaking tradition, after World War II, the styling changed again.
