The Post-war Nash rolled off the assembly line in October of 1945, and like other manufacturers they were re-issued 1942 models. Consumers, eager for new cars, bought them up. New for 1946 was the Suburban sedan, Nash’s version of the Chrysler Town and Country. Unlike the wood bodied Town and Country, the Ambassador Suburban was wood applied over steel. Style-wise the Suburban favored the classic “slipstream” sedan design of the 1940’s.
Nash’s highest price model, the Suburban was a halo car designed to bring in the average curious customer, who was re-directed to something more affordable. The car is equipped with the Weather Eye conditioned air system, which was the precursor of Nash’s All-Weather Eye, the first air conditioning system for the mass market. Drivers could change stations using their feet using the remote-controlled Zenith radio. And for the first and only time, a Nash was selected as the Pace Car for the 31st running of the Indianapolis 500.
