The body of the Starlight coupe resembles a halo shape. Designed by Virgil Exner, formerly of Raymond Loewy’s design team, the Starlight featured the ponton body style that went mainstream after World War II. One of the most striking design elements is the elongated hood-like cover over the luggage compartment.
The Starlight has a rounded roof and rear seat passengers were astonished at the expansive wrap-around curved rear window offering a panoramic view similar to a railroad observation car. In 1954, the Starlight Coupe Commander received the Fashion Academy Award from the New York School of Fashion Design.
