Based on the New Yorker chassis, the Imperial would produce the same “unexcelled performance, durability, and dependability” that Chryslers were famous for. This Imperial Sedan was purchased “used” in 1957 by Mr. Theodore Jo (“Ted”) Saugstad, then of La Crosse, WI. Over time, the car passed through several owners and spent years in storage.
In 1986, Ted, now residing in Marietta, GA, had a chance to repurchase the car, which he did. The restoration began in earnest in 2006. It was a complete restoration, down to the frame, which was powder-coated and painted. Five years later, the work was done, right down to the replacement of the air filter decals on the rebuilt straight-8 engine. The car is immaculate with all new chrome, and every detail is made perfect. Even the clock works! It drives like a brand-new car today and has garnered many awards at shows, including an AACA First Place Award.
