When a family from Peru arrived at “The Place,” a small motor court with a restaurant and filling station in the Catskills, an arrangement was made. When the owners closed the business for the winter, the family would rent the residence on the property. Eventually, all contact from the family ceased, and when the owners returned in the Spring, they found a set of dishes and the 1951 Cadillac, but no family.
The car eventually moved to Long Island with the family and was part of their daughter’s wedding. Eventually, this same daughter took possession of the car and, in 2015, brought it to Georgia, where it made a few cameo appearances on the Caffeine and Octane TV Show. What are the chances some hoteliers in the Catskills would cross paths with some international travelers, and then have a half-century relationship with a ’51 Cadillac?
