In 1954, the Savoy name transitioned from a model to a series. Taking its place as Plymouth’s mid-priced car, it offered a bridge between the Plaza and the Belvedere. With the increased cost came more amenities such as fancier exterior trim and upgraded interior finishes. The car came with full-length body moldings, newly designed chrome gravel shield, and a bright metal windshield as opposed to black rubber. The Plymouth Savoy holds a special place in the heart of this museum.
During the museum’s developmental phase, a persistent conundrum arose. What name should the museum have? The answer came in the form of a rusted-out 1954 Plymouth Savoy with a tree growing out of the trunk! After the museum was finished, a visitor provided more information about the car. Her grandparents once owned the property where the museum is built. As a child, she and her family members traveled to Colorado to visit relatives. The car on display has the same color scheme as our namesake.
