1955 marked the beginning of a 3-year series now known as the “Tri-Fives”. The re-styled 1955 Bel Air looked lower, longer, wider, and for the first time featured flush fitting rear fenders. A wrap-around windshield, two-tone paint schemes and the Ferrari inspired grille gave the 1955 Chevrolet a brand-new look. The instrument panel, copied from the 1953 Corvette, created a sporty looking interior. The “Tri-Fives” are still capturing Chevy lover’s hearts today.
This car has been modified, and its 350 cu. in. “crate-engine” is fuel injected. It is also equipped with the factory options of power steering, brakes and air conditioning. Additional special features are the tilt-steering wheel, dual exhaust and the Rallye style wheels. For the automotive world two events made the headlines in 1955. Actor James Dean died while driving to a race, and the tragic crash at LeMans. That accident resulted in the Big Three ending their factory race programs.
