Like the other manufacturers, Willy suspended civilian vehicle production in 1942 and focused all its efforts on the war. The Jeep was their premier vehicle, and afterward, it led the way back into the consumer market. The company also produced two—and four-door station wagons, pickups, and panel delivery trucks. However, it took Willys almost 10 years to re-engage fully in regular passenger car production.
The Bermuda featured a full-width chrome grill with concave vertical bars. A zig-zag side molding separated the two-tone paint scheme. It was a limited production run and Willy’s most expensive car. However, price-wise, the Bermuda was the least expensive hardtop on the market. Unfortunately, 1954 was the year of the historic sales war between Ford and Chevrolet, which rippled through the market, causing havoc for the independents. Though Willys would still produce the Jeep, the passenger car line succumbed in June 1955.
