In a series of cars dubbed the “Tri-Fives”, the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air stood out from the other. On purpose, General Motors radically changed the look of its low-price leader. The front end and rear end with soaring fins were designed to mimic the 1957 Cadillac. Customers clamored for a sheet-metal makeover, and Chevrolet gladly delivered. Chevrolet didn’t limit the upgrades to styling features. New for 1957 was a 283-cu. in. engine and optional factory fuel injection.
Chevrolet allowed customers to load up their new Bel Air with options normally found on higher priced vehicles. Power steering, brakes, seats and windows were readily available. Wheel skirts, bumper guards, spotlights and even a spare tire Continental kit could make your new Bel Air distinctly your own. Even better, air conditioning was offered. Of the “Tri-Fives”, the 1957 Chevrolet was a very successful “one hit wonder”, and its unique styling made it stand apart from its predecessors.
