Offered from 1956 through 1958, the Golden Hawk is one of Raymond Loewy’s final designs at Studebaker. The vehicle shares the basic shape of the Studebaker Champion/Commander Starliner. The hardtop coupe features a distinctive vertical egg-crate grille, pointed nose, and raised hood line to accommodate the 352 in. Packard V-8 engine that it used in 1956.
In 1957, Studebaker installed their own 289 cubic inch engine with a McCulloch supercharger, replacing the 352 cubic inch Packard engine. The Golden Hawk is one of the more expensive vehicles from the 1957 model year. Advertised as a “family sports car,” the Hawk offered more power per pound than any American car at the time while still allowing comfortable space for four to five passengers.
