Post WWI, and into the 1930s, the Sedanca Coupé was a popular style. Known for his distinctive attention to detail, designer James Young’s version featured a solid, removable front roof over the front seats. This design element was fitted on the Sedanca de Ville models. The removable front roof was made possible by forward inclined center pillars. Two vehicles of this design were made on Silver Cloud 1 chassis, and both were exported to the United States.
This car was built for prominent neurosurgeon and pharmaceutical heir, Dr. Rudolph A. Light. In the 1960s, Dr. Samuel L. Scher, a Rolls-Royce aficionado, purchased this car. Dr. Scher eventually owned both Sedanca Coupés and had them redesigned to match his tastes. The side windows were blanked off, and landau bars were added. The rear window was reduced, and free-standing Marchal headlights were installed. The body was finished in Reuter Red, Dr. Scher’s longstanding “house color”.
