To compete with Ford’s Ranchero passenger pickup truck, Chevrolet released its pickup truck, the El Camino, in 1959. The name “El Camino” is a Spanish term meaning “the way,” “the road,” or “the journey.” This El Camino, though restored, evokes a simpler time – the halcyon America of the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Built on a 119” wheelbase station wagon chassis, the rakish El Camino sits stylishly low. Its usable six-foot bed is accented with the twin “batwing” fins. Considered one of the most stylish pickups, Chevrolet offered the El Camino with three different engines: a 235-cu. in. Inline-6, a 283-cu. in. V-8, or a 348-cu. in. V-8. These engines offered outputs ranging from 135 HP to 315 HP.
