In 1958, in an attempt to compete with General Motors and Chrysler, Ford introduced a new mid-priced brand, the Edsel. This new vehicle came in four separate series and 18 unique models. The upper-level Corsair featured a stylized Mercury-inspired body and generous application of chrome. The two-door hardtop coupe started at $3,311.
The image to the right is a 1958 Edsel sales brochure showing the four series with the 18 mid-priced models. This wealth of choices included: Citation, Corsair, Pacer, Ranger, station wagon, two-door, four-door hardtop, and convertible. Models were available at varying prices and in a multitude of color combinations. The Edsel Division only produced vehicles during model years 1958 to 1960; after that, the brand was discontinued.
