After 1959’s towering fins, Cadillac’s designers dialed back the look of the 1960 Series 62. Gone were the twin rocket taillights, the fins were reduced in size, and taillights were placed in the rear fender caps. The popular Series 62, styled at GM Design under its flamboyant boss Bill Mitchell, had a total sale of just under 70,000 units.

Series 62 models were distinguished by plain fender skirts, thin three-quarter length bodyside spears, and Cadillac crests with lettering on short horizontal front fender bars mounted just behind the headlights. The Cadillac Series 62 designation was dropped after 1964, and Cadillac’s 1965 entry-level car was renamed Calais.
