The first Holmes 500 was shipped in October 1962 and was still listed in their catalog through 1989. There were approximately 5,000 of the Holmes 500 units produced with early versions having the square tailgate and side controls. City Motors in Cartersville, GA ordered the F350 new and had the Holmes 500 Wrecker installed in Chattanooga, TAN. Used by City Motors until retired in the mid-1980s, it was then restored to its current as new condition.
Available options at the time were outboard legs similar to the 600; larger 15” winch drums, and a special “Town and Country” model with one large (15”) and one small (8”) drum. Later units came standard with dual 12” drums and deck mounted control levers with an angled tailgate.
