Considered one of the best-looking Sting Rays, the 1967 model had only minor modifications from the previous year’s release. Why mess with success? Changes to the 1966 model laid a firm foundation for the next year’s release; still, there were some upgrades. The five front fender louvers were now functional, not just ornamental. Styling refinements gave the car a cleaner profile. Frankly, the competition had nothing that looked that good.

Beauty may be skin deep, but power is to the bone, and the 1967 Sting Ray was a full-blown race car straight from the factory production line. Idolized in songs by the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean, Jan Berry’s story demonstrated the dangers of driving high-powered cars recklessly. A crash on Whittier Boulevard in LA left Berry with significant head injuries, seriously impaired that ended his musical career. You don’t come back from “Dead Man’s Curve” unscathed.
