1967 was the last year for the Lincoln Continental convertible. Although, GM lauded the demise of their open-top Eldorado, no public statement about the style’s discontinuation was made. When the last iteration of the Lincoln convertible was released in 1961 it was a showstopper. Its open-top, four-door design with suicide rear doors had disappeared by the 40s. Subtly, Lincoln was signally the end of the convertible, however, it took years for the public to realize this.

First, highway travel with the top down was noisy and uncomfortable. Second, and more important, the addition of air conditioning in cars. Almost 97% of the Lincoln Continentals sold in 1967 had this highly desired option. Another feature of the Continental was the no top boot. Although storage for the retracted top took up a large portion of the cavernous trunk, the car’s overall look was sleek, streamlined and classy. This car was generously donated by Gene Tilley.
