In the 1970s, Chrysler had its share of ups and downs. Good at making full-sized cars, Chrysler launched a new line of them. However, their debut was overshadowed by another significant event, the 1973 fuel crisis. Chrysler, like the other manufacturers, had to adjust to this change in the market, and they found a solution. In 1975, they discontinued the Imperial, and the New Yorker Brougham took its place.
With a lower price and the more luxurious styling and interior trappings of the Imperial, sales rose steadily. The thick seating had a loose pillow look and was upholstered in either plush Castilian velour or Corinthian leather. There were fold-down armrests, ashtrays, and lighters for everyone! The New Yorker offered full power accessories and stereo sound. Although teetering on collapse, Chrysler pulled out all the stops, didn’t skimp on luxury, and created a winner.
