Following a “beauty treatment” in 1990, Cadillac could advertise the Brougham as having “contemporary yet classic exterior and interior styling.” The three new colors, Brownstone, Maple Red, and Light Antelope, brought the total number of color choices to twelve. Halogen composite headlamps, new end caps, and bumper filler gave the front end a distinctive, international appearance. Changes to the side profile weren’t extensive; however, they gave the car a completely different look. Topping off the exterior was a fully padded vinyl roof.
For Cadillac devotees who didn’t care for front-wheel drive, the Brougham was old-school Cadillac luxury. Not only was it the largest passenger production vehicle, but the Brougham also made more money than any other Cadillac model. The secret was that since 1980, the car remained essentially the same. Vehicles were refreshed to give the appearance of a brand-new look; all the while avoiding major retooling and die change costs. Concerning the Brougham, Cadillac realized, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”
