In their review of the 2006 Corvette Z06, Motor Trend reported that not only was the car wicked fast and handled superbly, but it was also less expensive than a Volkswagen…the $70,000 Volkswagen Phaeton that is. After putting the car through its paces at the Nürburgring F1 track, the test drivers were impressed. Working with a base LS7 version, the Z06 demonstrated the benefits of the car’s developmental roots, as seen in the C6R racer.

Although this car features an LS7 engine, it has undergone modifications. The twin turbochargers give this Z06 a hefty 1200 HP. In the test drive, the car’s ability to hug the road was akin to “a scared cat clinging to drapery.” With the power behind this engine, one wonders if Kitty would shred the curtains while hanging on for dear life. Motor Trend’s test drivers said the car felt like a “race car made just street legal,” and they concluded that owners were getting a “Ferrari performance at a Chevy price.”
