Years before the first Cybertruck rolled off the assembly line, in 2012 Elon Musk dropped a hint. He was contemplating a different kind of pickup truck. It would have “crazy torque, dynamic air suspension, and corner like it’s on rails.” It took seven years for Musk’s dream to become a reality. The Cybertruck didn’t drive like any other truck, AND, it didn’t look like any other truck. It was a true one-of-a-kind.
When the Cybertruck was unveiled on November 21, 2019, people were dumbstruck. The unpainted stainless steel polygon body looked part concept car, part kitchen appliance. To Musk’s horror, the Armor Glass window shattered when hit with a metal ball. However, none of that mattered. In less than 24 hours Tesla had received 146,000 reservations requiring a refundable $100 deposit. By the end of the year, these total grew to 250,000.
